Staffordshire County Women’s League
Chasetown Ladies secured the Staffordshire County League title with their final league game of the season at Burntwood Leisure Centre in style. They were playing a gallant Stafford Rangers team who had not won a match all season and ran out easy winners by 21 goals to 0. Whilst not being a competitive match the game was played in a friendly spirit on a really hot afternoon more suited to a water fight than a football match.
Twelve months ago Chasetown were hesitant about moving from girl’s football into open age ladies football. With a very young side this was understandable. Whilst the team lacked experience, they more than made up for this with pace and ability. Whilst North Staffs YMCA, Cresswell Wanderers and Burntwood Phoenix all put up serious challenges towards the end of the season the girls ran out County Champions by three clear points.
Chasetown Ladies finished the winning season with an impressive record. Played 24 and won 22, with just one draw and one defeat. They scored a total of 162 goals and Sinead Treanor finished top goal scorer in the league with an amazing total of 72 goals. Excellent performances throughout the team mean that it would be unfair to single out individual players and some will receive their Awards at the Chasetown Presentation evening at the Banks Stadium on Saturday 29th May.
