A bit on the 2003 - 2004 game from my match report back then... (especially if you've never seen our manager play)
Chasetown weren’t despondent and equalised within a minute (43), scoring the best goal of the game. CHARLIE BLAKEMORE received the ball just outside the area, expertly brought it under control by flicking the ball over the last defender, before planting a low right footed shot, into the bottom corner of the goal, reminiscent of Paul Gascoigne’s strike v. Scotland in Euro 96. Blakemore’s goal also notched up a Chasetown milestone - the goal was the Scholars’ 500th league goal since the Midland Alliance was formed in 1994.
But, chalk and cheese...
Three minutes later (75), Chasetown were awarded a penalty of their own. Steve Ball and Charlie Blakemore combined with a ball through to Lee Gough. Gough and the goalkeeper converged on the ball at the same time with the goalkeeper just catching Gough before he reached the ball. The Referee had no hesitation pointing to the spot. After four minutes of lengthy treatment to Gough, Charlie Blakemore assumed the responsibility for the spot kick but Nurse guessed correctly, making a good save, low to his right.
