Leek Town 2 Years, 7 Months ago
Another strangely subdued performance last night for Chase. Very even 1st half but caught cold at the start of the second half from yet another corner. From then on there was only going to be 1 winner as Leek took control until the final 10 minutes when we started to show some urgency.
Even, player of the season so far, Birchy had an off night by his high standards. Man of the match by a mile was John Branch who had yet another good game at wing back. 2 or 3 superb crosses from him last night which deserved to be put away but time and again there was no one in the box to get on the end of them.

We all left the ground not too despondent as it was better to lose last night then in the league game next week when hopefully we will be at full strength again and can get back to playing as well as we were before the Lancaster reply.

I blame the Branches

What ever happened to Chasetown the Great cup side ??

Hopefully we will now go on and win the league. We have players coming back so competition for places should be high.

I still think we are the best team in this league when we play to our strenghs on the deck and get our forwards plenty of ball.

Two moans only from last night (you should know me by now)

1, I thought it was very strange that CB put Vaughn back in straight after his break id have liked to have seen Aide given another game.

2, Every time we have a Corner or Free kick against us i feel uneasy we dont seem to have much of a clue how to defend them.

That is all for now.

From what I have read so far we seem to be very vunerable to headed goals.

Be it from corners, set pieces or the like. Surely this can be worked upon.

Be it zoneal marking - man markiing - or even rushing out so they get caught offside!

What do you guys how actually get to see the games think?

Personally, I think the vulnerability from set pieces could be a confidence issue, bought on by several changes in personel. Due to players coming in and out all season, and with very unfortunate injuries, we havent played that much of a solid team from week to week. Early on in the season, I think a weaker midfield allowed alot of pressure on the back 3, and I dont think the likes of Slater, Tease and Vaughan coped as well as last year.

It feels looking in (and I could be totally wrong) that their isn't the togetherness and bond than in the last 2-3 years. I cannot really think why this is, I'm sure it's no lack of effort on Charlie's behalf. Maybe it's the change of players, maybe people were in the club for the wrong reasons? What I do think is the current team all seem to want to play for the club, so it is somewhat baffling why we see so many good performances followed by flat ones.

Looking at the league, we have no reason to panic, and I do think that runs in these cup competitions is expendable in relation to the league. That said, we should be able to be enthusiastic for all games, esp with fringe players wanting their chance. The league is anyones at the moment, 1 of about 12 teams look capable. Mickelover looked like bottom feeders on early results, but from what we saw 1st hand they are a much better side than that. I think with a solid few games in a row we can impose ourselves on the league,
