Newcastle Town - Staffs Senior Cup 2 Years, 2 Months ago
Managers live and die by their decisions, and we all have an opinion on them... Often, I choose not to air them on a public forum, but, tonight I was a bit perplexed at the substitution of Ben Steane.

I was perplexed by the whole show, Newcastle obviously were up for the game and we weren't. Their keeper only had to make about 2 saves all night. Lets quickly draw a line under this poor performance and move on to Saturday, I liked the bike track though, never seen footy at a velodrome before.

Agree with the 1st post 100%. On a night when very few players could hold their heads up and say they had played well we took off Steaney who had been head and shoulders above any other Chase player on the pitch.!!
He was also the only player who had played in that awesome performance at Stafford that was dropped for the next game.!! Just what is going on?

Much more of this sort of treatment and i wouldnt be surprised if he said "enough is enough" and looks elsewhere.

Seems there is a bit of that going on at the moment. I couldn't make it yesterday so can't comment...........but I think looking at some of the team selections over recent months, when compared against form, is somewhat baffling.

Should we pick an individual who isn't performing well, purely because they are a contract player? I don't think so, and I think a few players recently have been treated harshly and some seem to be teflon when it comes to being dropped.

Newcastle have an impressive record so were never going to roll over, but this was real chance to get to a final and we have let it go. Yes promotion is the priority, but with Mickleover seemingly winning every game it looks like we are one of about 8 teams playing for the 4 play off places.

There does seem to be a lack of ambition from the team/club in certain fixtures, and it does beg the question how can we lose to Bloxwich, go and beat Glapwell, then lose to Newcastle Town with basically the same team all within a week.

I think some fans think we have a divine right to win things or go up, I for one don't. However, with the squad we have we should be vying for the title, and looking to win competitions, and if we don't I think we need to start looking at why and how the situation can be rectified.

Didn't make the game myself but understand it was poor.

However I'm still confident come May, Chasetown will have won promotion (via either route).

A rollercoaster ride is no fun unless there's ups and downs!

I hope so Lee. But unless Mickleover have a sudden slide we are playing for the playoffs. And we have seen enough fight and quality in other teams to make going up very difficult.

We certainly have the players to gain promotion, we just need to make sure that they are the ones on the pitch.

On a side note, results went for us last night, with Belper/Leek/Glapwell all drawing, and Rushall losing to a last minute winner at Cammell Laird. Shame if they don't make the play offs.
