Whilst I do not in any way condone what happened to the Kidsgrove flag, I would suggest that going to a Derby match, hanging a 20ft flag behind the opossision goal and to expect it to be untouched is the very least naievity if not bordoring on stupidity.
If that was done at Stalybridge v Hyde, Buxton v Matlock, Stafford v Tamwoth etc you would be lucky if it wasn’t set fire too.
As for the spitting did this actually happened? because all the accounts appear to be coming from people a long way from the incident, I was slightly to the side of the goal and did not see it.
If it did happen then spitting at anyone is the lowest of the low and the culprits need identifying and banning, it really is an abhorant act.

Leek fans rip up huge grove flag
Here is what Reece1 posted on the KAFC Online Forum:
"Appalling behaviour by so called leek fans,to rip up a 20ft kidsgrove flag, the largest in the unibond league that has graced many grounds was a total disgrace,im sure many other clubs especially shepshed will be disgusted by this,a xmas present from my wife costing £400-00.
Kidsgrove leave one large flag at far end due to changing ends at the start of match, took along time to put up.from the far end grove fans witnessed the flag taken down and put in the bin,we could understand that and were not worried, but to see the flag taken down and ripped up in front of the leek stewards was unexceptable, going around to collect the pieces on my own around 150 leek fans gave verbal abuse and one came over to try and punch me.never in my life have i seen such idiots. The incident was reported to the club and police were called by the club against my wishes as i thought this was a club problem due to the fact stewards did nothing.full credit to grove fans who could of caused a riot ,but are above that.the game was lost but it didnt help when all flags were taken away for safe keeping and support dwindled behind the goals, even then 2 leeks fans came over to cause trouble, good banter yes, this behaviour not.leek chairman appalled and said to me he would write to the club and myself,i asked for the club to pay for the flag as a goodwill gesture, this will be looked into, the chairman informs me.£400-00 alot of money to leek,so i think conclusion is for leek to send kidsgrove a cheque to the value of £250-00 made payable to the DOUGLAS MCMILLON HOSPICE (cancer charity)to be forwarded to me,then at least something good will have come out of this vile day, many thanks to some leek fans for their support after this event."
Lamby, Beth, Rhiann and all Chase flag lovers let's take care of our flags at Leek!

I think you can always tell from the off what type of crowd the opposition fans are. You can pick up what I believe you young people call the 'vibe', Lamby!
To be fair, the Leek travelling fans seemed a decent enough bunch and were still singing even when the game was lost. Perhaps we should learn to do the same!
Wednesday's atmosphere was fantastic. Well, I was feeling more positive than I have for a few months. Maybe that cheap Taiwanese champagne has got a few bubbles left in it after all!
