WELL it has certainly been an eventful and emotional week.
Obviously there is only one place to start and that’s with the win on Saturday and the achievement of what we all set out for back in July – promotion.
The game itself was a real nervy one and it was always going to be won by whoever got that first goal.
Luckily for us the chance fell to Dean Perrow who just seems to be in the right place at the right time and you know is always likely to grab that goal.
I think over the course of the season we have fully deserved to get that second promotion spot and it’s what everyone at the club deserves for their hard work, especially after the hurt we all felt losing out at Nuneaton last season.
As you know, I wasn’t involved for the final two games – something which I have been asked about but didn’t want to go into before such a big game as all the focus should have been on the lads getting the right result.
Having returned to action after a hamstring injury at Leek the previous Thursday in a great 3-1 away win, I was surprised to be the only change from that side for the Kidsgrove match.
After being told the reason was to protect the hamstring after playing just a few days earlier my focus was on the semi with Sheffield.
However, Monday I was shocked to receive a call from Andy Cox to be told I wouldn’t be featuring in the 16.
Having been at the club for four years and after the hard slog of the season to be told you would be missing the biggest games is hard to take.
Especially with no apparent reason and the manager not explaining things personally – having shown loyalty to the club by turning a number of clubs down, I felt let down.
Obviously there are things that go on in dressing rooms which should remain there and that is the case here.
However, having been with the club for four years I am hugely upset at the way things were handled last week.
As for next season I’m just going to take a break in the summer and see what develops. One thing for sure though is what a very special time I have had at the club.
The memories I can take away will be there forever, none more so than our history making FA cup run.
I can’t speak highly enough of the lads I have had the pleasure to be a part of for four years.
At clubs I have played previously there has always been a divide or groups within the group but certainly not here, we have always been as one and that sort of togetherness comes out on the pitch.
There are some fantastic people involved in every part of the club, the supporters have been superb and I have made some very special friends and I would like to thank them for the support they have shown me.
Myself and my family have always been made very welcome and I know they have enjoyed our time there. Enjoy your summer and I wish everyone all the very best for the future.

A very mature and honest piece by Ben.

Good luck Ben, whatever happens next season.

I'm trying to tempt him to stay with the prospect of a flag and t-shirt for next season

Its a shame that he is leaving but I can see why and it has probably been coming for a while. He hasnt been treated right in my mind this last season and I know Ive not been round a lot so havent seen a lot but it was just the feeling that I got, that something wasnt right and I have my own thoughts on why and who. It should have been managed better and Ben deserved more respect then what he got but he has been professional about it and I wish him all the best in what he does, I will miss him when I come to see Chasetown but I hope that he goes on and has a good career wherever he will be playing next season, Im sure he will soon be snapped up and whoever has him in the squal will certainly benifit from him being there.

Very well worded article, says what it needs to, no more and no less

Thanks Ben xx

Thought you wanted him to stay Lee !!! The thought of him having one of "your" flags and shirts is surely enough to make him want to leave!! LOL

On a serious note, what a well written article Ben. I agree with Pompey Scholar in that i dont feel he has been treated fairly this season and things have obviously gone that we the fans wont ever know about.
No one i know wants Ben to go but it looks like that's what is going to happen now. You will be an asset Ben wherever you end up, and just want to say good luck whatever happens.

I like Ben and I think he is an important part of the squad. But you cannot elevate one player over another. Loads of players would have been disappointed to miss out on the final, and Charlie can't call all of them up. Ben's injury and absense from the team co-incided with our great run towards the end of the season, so I think Charlie was quite within his rights to pick the side he felt could beat Glapwell.

I am sure Jevvo was disappointed to be a sub, and of course Danny was gutted not to get on. But I am sure Slater was sad to pick an injury up in the semi final. Football isn't always fair and sometimes conflict of attitude and ideas is inevitable.

I hope Ben has a rethink and can stop, he has been a loyal member of the squad but we will have to see what transpires. He has also stormed off the pitch when substituted, and that's never a good thing to do as a player.
