TOPIC: League Table

League Table 2 Years, 8 Months ago
Looking at the table perhaps we need to concentrate on the league, look at the 2 teams we have beaten, propping up the rest.Spalding next up they are down there also, but look at Carlton , did we beat them 5 - 0 last year in the Cup.

From what I have seen thus far this season, this league does not suit us at all. Faster passed, more aggressive, quicker closing down and more direct football. If we had of remained in the British Gas league I think we would be having a much better season, after all we were familiar with all the sides in there.

Lets hope we see a massive improvement soon or we are going to be playing catch up. The only saving grace about yesterday was it meant we avoided Rushall, who prob would of beaten us on our own patch on current form. And we can't be having that.

We'd never live that down...

From my perspective though, I thought it was generally thought the Unibond was more physical and direct anyway? Even with seeing 2 or 3 of the sides in our division in the past, that's what I'd been told. Surprised we didn't know what to expect - or maybe it's just difficult to adapt and change quickly, part of the reason why we're not playing well? Or that we're trying to stick to our old style more and are being punnished...let's hope for a quick turnaround in fortunes

I think we've known what to expect since the switch was confirmed. What we haven't managed to do is adapt to it. If anything, we have lost so much focus we might not be doing so well in the old BGB league this season either.

We got bested by Wulfs and they're not in our league. Perhaps we won't be either, if we don't sort it out.

Hi guys

Retford fan here. Only just found this place. Was hanging around the other forum, thinking you lot were all dead!!

Anyway, with the best will in the world, the only reason I am sticking my oar in here is cos you have our ex Assistant Manager prowling the touchlines now. And given his track record with us (won this league at first time of asking, for example, not to mention FA Cup runs (I know, I know!!!) and successive promotions prior to winning the title ) I can't help thinking you have a guy who knows better than most what it takes to not only survive, but prosper. I don't pretend to know what is going off at your club, nor the aspirations of you lot as a set of fans. But I do know that you could do a lot LOT worse than putting your faith in him, and the people who brought him to your club. We'd have him back tomorrow. And if he didn;t live in your back yard, I wager he'd still be with us, assisting in the Prem.

As I see it from our new lofty position in the Unibond Prem, the league isn't too tough. Although I don;t know the standard of the BG. You need a lump or two at the back. An engine in the middle and pace up front, preferably coupled with someone physical. Even better if he can head a ball.

Someone mentioned the illogical nature of your results, and Carlton in particular. They are close neighbours to us, and came up thru the regional leagues with us. A cracking little club, with criminally little support. But they blow hot and cold. In the old style of Barry Fry, if you score four, they want to score five. Dour one nils are not for them. So every now and again they give a pasting, and then recieve one soon after. Looks like you dished one out last season. But they were in the mix last season, and will be again. They are a fair barometer of the league however, and finishing above them should be classed as success.

So there you go. I could bore you with other Uni One "facts" (ie laugh at Quorn, hate Grantham, go to Goole only for the pie) but you might all think I'm a cock, so my opinion would be worthless :o) But whatever else, believe me when i say you have one of the good 'uns in the dugout. You just may not know it yet.

Ahh, an articulate interloper!

Welcome meles. (That's what I do on here. I'm the official "meeter and greeter", 'cos everyone else forgets!)

Have you been trained in counselling? Having read your post I've got a twinge of optimism back. You obviously talk some sense, because I've already had a titter about Quorn

Exactly what I was thinking, we SHOULD be capable of doing well in this league, so lets go do it.

And Meles, I think any opposition fans input is welcome here. Any comments you make about the league certainly don't make you look "a tosser" as you put it. We are still finding our feet in this league, but fingers crossed a couple of good results and we will be looking down as opposed to up.
